Teacher mocks child with Jolly Ranchers in her hair

Jolly RanchersThe Chicago Tribune is reporting that a Chicago Public Schools teacher is being investigated to see if she should be disciplined for mocking a 7-year-old Overton Elementary School student.

The child had seen a hairstyle that incorporated Jolly Rancher candies into braids in a hair style magazine. Her mother promised her she could have that hairstyle for picture day.

The girl showed up to school on picture day, no doubt proud of her candy hairstyle, and one of her teachers asked if she could take a picture of the girl’s hair. She was heard to mumble “My husband is not gonna believe this” even as she snapped the picture on her phone.

Well, she shared it with more than her husband. She posted it on her Facebook page, to the mockery of her friends and connections.

A mutual connection told the girl’s mother that the mockery was taking place, and her mother complained to the school.

No child should have to be mocked for their fashion choices; especially a seven year old. The fact that it was a teacher doing it makes it all the worse. In the words of the child’s mother, “What bothers me is that she still hasn’t apologized to my baby…”

So let me get this straight. The parent allows her kid to go get her yearbook picture taken with this hair style. A teacher snaps a shot of her with the hair style to show her husband, only stating “My husband is not gonna believe this.” I for one wouldn’t believe it until i saw it to. But that doesn’t mean i’m going to mock the kid. Not to mention what was the parent think would happen once these kids get their yearbooks with digital photos? Does she think they are gonna be angels and not do anything with the pictures? Think again, kids are shameless when it comes to that kind of stuff.

The problem was, she DIDN’T just show it to her husband; she posted on Facebook, where the mockery began.

Pretty sure the mockery began as soon as she got to school, then the parents wanna blame the school when their kid gets bullied.

I’m not exempting the teacher, as a matter of fact, I think she should be punished, because unless she is a retard, she knew the child would be mercilessly mocked, but the parents also lacked a great deal of common sense.

My issue is with the teacher taking pictured of a student without consent from the parents and the school. She crossed the boundaries with that one.

People need to learn how to use their privacy settings.

The fact that a teacher posted a picture of a child from her school on Facebook for the world to see, in a demeaning light, no less, should be a BIG deal. That is NOT OK. Bad judgment on the teacher’s part. They should create some kind of privacy/sensitivity training for all the teachers at that school and try to turn this into a learning experience for all.
