If you’re wondering why the air around Left Bank at Kinzie Station – and the River North/Fulton District of Chicago in general – seems to smell a touch sweeter, there is a good reason.
The area is home to the Blommer Chocolate Company, a chocolate and cocoa manufacturer that got its start in 1939 right here in Chicago. Founders Henry Blommer Sr. and Al and Bernard Blommer set up shop in Illinois before expanding operations to California and Pennsylvania. Four generations later, Blommer Chocolate operates three factories across the country.
The company remains dedicated to three founding principals – quality, consistence and concern for the customer. From signature boxed chocolates to premium cocoas to sustainably sources ingredients, Blommer is the country’s largest processor of cocoa beans and chocolate products. But it’s the sweet scent that will draw you in.
Obvious Willy Wonka references aside, if you’re looking to buy your sweets in bulk, Blommer Chocolate Company is located at 600 W. Kinzie St. between Jefferson and Desplaines.
Seems safe enough. You can’t inhale the calories from a chocolate bar, can you?
